The Backyard

The soldiers marched through tall grass,

Wearily trampling the long blades.

Across the lawn dinosaurs lurked,

And high above spaceships flew.

Though I was the only witness,

I'll never forget the legendary battles that ensued.

Those who watched would only see,

That which they could see.

And to many their gaze was simply met,

With a small boy,

Sitting in his backyard.

Yet to me these epic conquests,

Exotic expiditions and heroic adventures,

Were the most real memories,

I'll ever have.
